The beneficial effects of Virgin Coconut Oil for Alzheimers and Dementia.

A huge THANK YOU to Anita Thornley for her immensely helpful brainwave in our quest to publicise the beneficial effects of Virgin Coconut Oil for Alzheimers and Dementia.

Anita has been instrumental in helping me set up a meeting in London tomorrow with Kal Parmar who’s Father was the subject of the excellent article by Jerome Burne in the Good Health section of the Daily Mail on January 8th. Since the article was published Kal has had several meetings with MP’s about this emotive subject and has another tomorrow before we meet. In these meeetings he is trying to get establishment support for further clinical research in to the theory that the ketones induced by taking Virgin Coconut Oil can help manage and prevent Alzheimers and Dementia.

This will be the first time Kal and I have met and I am looking forward to it enthusiastically. At this stage we do not have any set plans but from a couple of conversations it is obvious we have the same aims. We both feel a strong sense of frustration if not actual anger that the possibility of a natural and relatively inexpensive solution to these awful scourges is not being taken seriuosly enough. Millions of pounds are being poured in to research for drugs for the prevention and management of these conditions when the real answer could be as simple as changing our diets and yet no research is being done on this.

I’ll keep you all posted as to how we get on. And again “Thanks” to Anita who is herself a professional carer as well as a problem solver!!

The Healing Power of Coconoil

Karen Maidment Health & Nutrition Specialist, Personal Cookery Coach, Author.

Fats Debunking the Myths – animal and vegetable fats (such as butter and coconut oil) are the essential building blocks for cell membrane, hormones and hormone like substances. They offer the most concentrated source of energy for the body. Fats actually keep you full up for longer; this means we need to eat less often to have good sustained physical energy and mental focus.

Saturated animal fats are hugely beneficial for facilitating healing, enhancing the immune system and protecting the liver from toxins. They are vital for the transportation of fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, our anti-aging free radical fighting vitamins.

Low fat diets have actually been linked to many health problems such as low energy, difficulty concentrating, mood swings, hormonal imbalances and depression.

Coconoil, The Healing Fat – I use Coconoil in my clinical practise as a true whole food supplement and love seeing the healing benefits it produces in my clients.

Here are my Six Insider Secrets to get you started!

1) Coconoil is highly stable at a range of temperatures which means that it is safe to use for frying, browning, roasting and baking. It can be used hot in cooking or cold in smoothies, added to soups and stews.

2) Coconoil contains around 50% Lauric Acid which is one of the main immune boosting properties of mother’s milk. Lauric Acid has antimicrobial and antifungal properties making it an essential addition to your diet when suffering from digestive complaints. Its soothing and stabilising properties help to speed up healing in the digestive tract.

3) Coconoil helps to regulate blood sugar by encouraging healing of the insulin producing cells in the pancreas.

4) Coconoil helps keep you full up for longer. Low fat diets, which have been the norm for many years, can lead to a lack of satiety causing binge eating as your brain attempts to maintain balance, searching for this vital macronutrient.

5) Coconoil helps increases metabolism.

6) Coconoil is an ideal butter substitute for lactose intolerant individuals.

I love cooking with Coconoil in all sorts of wonderful ways. Here is one of my favourite Sweet Treat recipes for you to indulge in!

COCONOIL AFRICA is produced from sustainable sources.

Coconoil Africa is a cold pressed, fermented virgin coconut oil produced form traditionally grown palms in Ghana on the West Coast of Africa.

Coconoil is delighted to partner five village co-operatives who work together in a sustainable coconut-growing project.

Eco-friendly farming practices, which include recycling the husks into a natural fertiliser, produce abundant crops of quality coconuts

Using ancient and traditional methods of cold pressing and fermentation the coconut flesh is transformed into a wonderful and healthy virgin coconut oil.

The sustainability is further enhanced through the intelligent use of all by-products of the virgin coconut oil production process to feed livestock, fish and fertilise market gardens. Additionally, biogas for the villages is produced from the livestock waste thus protecting the environment from deforestation caused by firewood collection.

Coconoil Africa is an excellent virgin coconut oil for cooking, hair & skincare. Due to the fermentation process used Coconoil Africa is especially gut friendly as well as containing all the nutritional and well-being properties of a high quality virgin coconut oil.

A new study shows Coconut Oil fights Tooth Decay!

We recently found this interesting study on another health benefit to using Coconut Oil. The study was published by Huffpost Lifestyle. What do you think?

“Coconut oil fights tooth decay and could find its way into toothpaste and mouthwash, research suggests.

Scientists found that when the oil was treated with digestive enzymes it became a powerful killer of mouth bugs.

The bacteria it attacked included Streptococcus mutans, an acid-producing microbe that is a major cause of tooth decay.

Researchers were following up earlier work which showed that partially digested milk made S. mutans less likely to stick to tooth enamel.

Further studies will look at how coconut oil interacts with the bacteria at the molecular level, and what other microbe strains and yeasts it may combat”.click to read more

Increase your Metabolism with Coconut Oil

The majority of coconut oil is made up of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA’s) which can help speed up our bodies’ natural metabolism process, making it the healthiest fat to have in our diets. The reason why it does this is because the medium chain fatty acids present in the oil are easily digested and converted into energy instead of being stored in our body as fat like long-chain fatty acids (LCFA’s) which are more difficult for our bodies to break down.

Another contributing factor is that coconut oil slows down the overall digestion of our food which allows us to feel fuller for longer. As a result, we will be less prone to snacking between meals and overeating. The coconut oil is also an ideal ingredient for detox diets as it cleanses and nourishes our body, as well as balances our digestive tract.

If you are considering incorporating coconut oil into your diet solely to lose weight, the amount of pounds you lose will depend on your overall diet as well as your exercise regime. To ensure you drop pounds in a healthy you should go about the process so in a slow, steady fashion because not only is it a healthier way, but it will also help you to maintain your weight loss. Try gradually introducing coconut oil into your diet and combine it with other nutritious foods and exercise that will also contribute to your ultimate weight loss goal.
